Endgadget – OhMiBod Picks Up Good Vibrations

This nifty new iPod addition will make lonely nights less … urm … lonely. A vibrator attachment plugs in alongside the earphones. It vibrates to the rhythm of the music, so one would get aural and tactile stimulation in sync.

Best with your “Intimate music” playlist.

Soundless cellphone ringtone

19.07.2006

In The Midnight Run, a friend of mine writes about an article he read that focused on an ultra high frequency ringtone that teenagers use in class, but is unheard by the teacher.

The developer of this “Mosquito Ringtone” apparently investigated a theory that as people grow older, the range of sounds discernible by the ear diminishes. I’m 26 and I can hear it. Maybe not from far away, but I can, without pumping the volume of the laptop speakers. Can you? Check it out here.

Innovative exercising

Yesterday found me over at G's place, out in the province. It was also "walking day", so we naturally had to find a place to walk.

The compound where her house is located, is along the highway. It has a few other houses alongside it, but the lot itself is still pretty much uncharted territory (to me, at least). There still is some vegetative growth in some parts of the property, including a creek, if I'm not mistaken. Obviously, this wouldn't do for an hour's worth of walking.

She didn't approve of the idea of walking along the highway, to the next town either. Realistically speaking, it's a bit dangerous, with all the trucks coming and going.

We usually walk in a quiet area, preferably with a lot of greens around. So the best option was to walk in the … (drum roll please)

Town cemetery.

Yes, the town cemetery. It wasn't the like the large cemeteries of the city where tombs stretch as far as the eye can see, but it had its share of 'residents'. The air was fresh, and the few people who visited their dead relatives were enough to keep us company.

There was also this group of workers who were gathering up the unmilled rice (palay) they laid out in the cemetery a few hours back. Now isn't that amazing? The rice you eat today could have come from that rice in the cemetery! (That would make an interesting plot for a Stephen King novel…)

Blind Teen Amazes With Video-Game Skills

It's interesting to see how much people can and do stretch themselves. I thought I've heard of everything.

I wonder how this guy manages to filter out all the sounds that he hears.

reawakening

it is only fitting that a reawakening post would feature a favorite pastime of a lot of my friends.

binge drinking
(published on page a15 of the october 8, 2004 issue of the pdi)

–excerpt–
notice how in both english and tagalog we use innocuous words to describe alcohol intake: "drinking" in english and "inuman" in tagalog. yet alcohol is a powerful chemical, with effects on the body that you can feel within a few seconds after you take it in.

When is it bingeing?

…what's a standard drink? it can be a small glass of wine, one bottle of beer or a splash of russian vodka. for filipinos then, the index would be beer bottles: taking in five or more in two hours could be binge drinking. but don't forget that many asians don't break down alcohol very well in the blood, which means we get intoxicated more quickly. i'd suspect maybe even three beers in two hours could be problematic for many of us.
