from 70’s bistro, with love

12.02.2004

it's almost one in the morning, and yet i still try to post. i think something's wrong with me.

well, say whatever you want, but i just came from one of the most relaxing and entertaining jam sessions ever. it was (is, if i consider the fact that my friends are still there, finishing the second set!) held at 70's bistro, along anonas st. music provided by mr. social justice himself, noel cabangon.

"pana-panahon ang pagkakataon…"

from aruba to tapika

04.02.2004

my dinner-after dinner date never ventured near aruba. as we passed by, M commented that it seemed empty. i had my eyes on the road, so i had to take her word for it.

we ended up at tapika, a music bar nearer her place, and were entertained by dominic and burton.

their write-up on clickthecity says:
the promising duo of dominic cruz and burton sabili always come out with a new reprtoire whenever they perform. love songs dominate their line-up with occasional sprinkling of top hits and songs of yesteryears.

they were pretty good. went well with the garlic mushrooms, peanuts, coke light and coffee we had. another plus side to them is that they were open to members of the audience taking centerstage along with them!

comments: while the singer (dominic, i think) had good control of his luke mejares cum nyoy volante voice, the band must still come up with an identifying repertoire. acoustic r&b is all around too much that it gets boring. it's good, though, that they've managed to squeeze themselves into a cd along with other big name artists. watch out for them.

waiting for my rocket to come

03.02.2004

it's 4:40 in the afternoon by my laptop's clock.

in two hours i'll be in makati.

about an hour after that i'll be in libis.

yesterday, we went cd shopping at m1, greenbelt 3. i browsed through the genres that interested me, only to find out that i am such a stingy guy when it comes to cds.

if i had a higher paying job then i'd probably have bought 7 cds or something.

last night i ended up with only one. the latest from nyoy volante & mannos, dubbed nv&m.

i just told M last week that nyoy alone had the power to swing my mood to the point of tears with just a few songs. it was true with the acoustic album. not so with this.

the band seemed to be in experimentation mode with this album. less of the tearjerker stuff, more of the happy-happy-joy-joy, feel-good music that would maybe suit most listeners' tastes. however, those who are looking for music for lonesome and hopeful nights would do well to stay away from this album.

my two centavos.

comments: good thing this is an opm. i would have thrown this disc back at the cashier if i paid 425 bucks for it. i was looking for an album to make me cry!

back to my night.

i'll be in aruba bar in libis, listening to a band whose cd i came across yesterday. mymp, also known as "make your mama proud", apparently specializes in a r&b, acoustic and jazz repertoire. just my kind of music. i hope they're good.
